Homebase Privacy Policy

Homebase is a new tab page. It has no account, no server and no analytics. Everything you create in it stays on your own computer.

The short version

Homebase stores your settings, links, tasks, notes and countdowns in your browser's local storage on your own device. None of it is transmitted anywhere — there is no sync, no backup service and no developer access to it. Homebase never asks for your location permission and never reads the pages you visit. The only outbound requests are to the weather, photo and search-suggestion services behind features you switch on, and every one of those can be turned off.

What Homebase stores

All of this lives in your browser's local extension storage, on this device:

Your settings — clock, layout, colours, which widgets are switched on
Your links, tasks, notes and countdowns
Timer state, search history, and how often you open each link
The current wallpaper, cached so a new tab paints instantly
The weather location you chose, as a name and coordinates

None of it is transmitted anywhere. Removing the extension removes all of it. You can export everything to a file, or erase it, from Settings → Data.

What leaves your computer

Homebase talks to a small number of third-party services, only for the features you have switched on. It never sends them an identifier for you or your device.

Turn any of these off and the requests stop:

Weather — Settings → Widgets → Weather
Category photos — Settings → Photo → Source
Favicon fetching — Settings → Widgets → Links → Link icons → Letter badges

Search

Homebase does not change your search settings and does not run its own search engine. Pressing Enter in the search box hands the query to your browser, which runs it on whatever default search provider you have already chosen. Nothing is sent to a suggestion service — the dropdown is built from your own tasks, links and past searches, all held on this device.

Location

Homebase does not request the browser's location permission when you install it, and never asks for your location in the background.

You choose a place for the weather by typing a city name. That name goes to Open-Meteo to look up the forecast, and the result is saved locally.

Where your browser allows it, a Locate me button also appears. Pressing it asks your browser for permission; if you agree, the coordinates go to Open-Meteo to fetch the forecast and the nearest place name, are saved locally, and go nowhere else. In Chrome the button is normally hidden, because Homebase does not declare the location permission there.

Most-visited sites

The optional Launchpad ranks the links you open from Homebase. In Chrome it can also read the browser's own "top sites" list to fill empty slots. That list is read locally to draw the icons and is never transmitted. Turn the Launchpad off in Settings → General and it is not read at all.

Analytics, ads & tracking

There are none. Homebase contains no analytics SDK, no advertising network, no crash reporting and no telemetry of any kind. No data is sold, and none is used to build a profile of you.

Children's privacy

Homebase is a general-purpose utility and is not directed at children. It collects no personal information from anyone, of any age.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it, and the new version appears at this address.
